The Beautiful Bunch is a Melbourne-based floral delivery service bringing joy through flowers and creating jobs for women from refugee backgrounds. The women The Beautiful Bunch works with face significant challenges to securing a job in Australia. The Beautiful Bunch's purpose is to support them to build the confidence, skills, and social networks needed to find meaningful employment.
Being young, female, and from a refugee background, means that this group faces some of the most significant challenges to entering the workforce.
The women The Beautiful Bunch works with are overrepresented among the unemployed and underemployed, and they face significantly greater barriers to finding employment than their male counterparts. The Beautiful Bunch provides a safe, welcoming, supportive and gender-informed work and training environment for young women from refugee backgrounds to work and learn.
Their training program, Many Hands, runs for six months. It is delivered in partnership with some of Melbourne’s most talented florists, and is focused on not only floristry training, but the acquisition of vital transferable skills that set our graduates up for future success.
1. The Good Box
Started by the daughter of two Scopus teachers, The Good Box helps thousands of Australians experiencing homelessness receive beautiful boxes with first hand quality items. The boxes are a vehicle to an important conversation which can help some of the most isolated people in our society to be more likely to seek and accept assistance. The Good Box also provides school and corporate engagement programs to educate staff and students on the important social issue of homelessness to empower others to help our friends in the homeless community.
2. Good Cycles
The Good Cycles Social Enterprise Hub, located in Flinders Street, is where you can go to see a number of social enterprises in action, as well as get support, coaching and mentoring to start YOUR social enterprise.
When learning that 2.4 billion people don't have access to a toilet (roughly 40% of the global population) and that around 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation, the founders of WGAC decided to take action. After creating a clever and successful crowd-funding campaign, they have been expanding their reach, while donating 50% of profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.
4. Thank You
When learning that 736 million people are stuck in extreme poverty, founders of Thank You were spurred into action. To date, Thankyou Group has raised $17.57 million AUD for the Thankyou Charitable Trust.
With the belief that all young people should get the opportunity to thrive, no matter their starting point, STREAT provides training, support and work experience to disadvantaged youth. STREAT's cafes, catering company and bakery serve deliciousness to many thousands of Melburnians while providing real work experience to hundreds of young people who really need a hand.
Fitted for Work helps Australian women experiencing disadvantage get work, keep work and thrive at work. To fund these goals, the organisation runs a shop called The Conscious Closet, which brings excellent pre-loved clothing to customers via their online store. 100% of the profit made from these sales goes straight to Fitted for Work.
Josh was awarded the 2019 Victorian Young Achiever Award for Environmental Sustainability.The company donates approximately 4% of total production. For over 10 years Josh has given many talks at schools and libraries, inspiring children about entrepreneurship and sustainability. He has been on national television, in children’s books and school texts and on ABC Education.
The entrepreneur is a leader with an enthusiastic vision and the ability to drive the enterprise and convince outside investors and potential employees of the value of the idea. The entrepreneur does not need to be "chief cook and bottle washer" of the enterprise but needs to recognize her/his weaknesses and compensate with outside talent.
