From 1095, European Christians invaded the Middle East on several occasions. Despite bringing back a vast amount of knowledge to Europe, thousands of lives were lost.
In the early 13th century 50 000 children marched through Europe.They dragged themselves barefoot across the snow-covered Alps. Many died but those who reached the the Mediterranean exhausted were loaded onto slave-ships, ending up at North African slave markets.
